Stop Corporate Welfare at City Hall

Winnipeg City Council gave $9 million, 20-year tax holiday to True North Square luxury condos

Last month, Winnipeg City Council voted to give $9 million in tax subsidies to help developers build luxury condos at True North Square. There will be no affordable housing on site.  The company is already on record as stating that the project would have been viable even without government support.  The 20-year tax holiday City Council voted to give them at the last session of the term merely pads their profit margin.

Across Daniel McIntyre and Winnipeg, families are struggling to pay mortgages and rent while thousands of people in homelessness have no housing at all. True North Square is luxury housing for the rich. A last minute deal for TNS to pay back 2% of the subsidy to go into a city fund to build affordable housing elsewhere does nothing to improve this bad deal for Winnipeggers.

If elected to City Council in Daniel McIntyre I will stand up against corporate welfare and work for residents.
